Feb 2016 Newsletter

The following information is designed to keep you updated and to request your help with a few things.

Race Night Fundraiser:

Thank you to everyone that took part in the Race Night.  It was great to see so many children and adults there from all sections of the club (Youth and Senior Football and Netball).  Lots of fun was had and the club raised a phenomenal £1,500.  All of the funds will, of course, be used for the benefit of all club members, for example to raise the standards of our playing facilities, improving levels of coaching and buying new equipment.

This fundraiser is a real example of what we can achieve and it would be great to do more of this type of fun event.  If you are interested in getting involved and helping organise future events please let me know.

Training on the Astro at Wodson:

Wodson Park Sports Centre would like all users of the astro and spectators to be aware that:

  • Users should not enter the astro until the previous session is finished
  • All sessions must finish on time
  • Spectators are not allowed on the astro
  • No one is allowed to smoke or chew/spit gum on the astro

Players Wanted:

Although the window for registering new players with the league for this season has only just closed on February 29th it is never too early to begin thinking about next season.  As teams move up to the next age group in September many of them also require bigger squads.  At this time we are specifically looking for new players for the current under 12s (school year 7), under 8s (school year 3) and under 7s (school year 2).  If any members are aware of anyone looking to join a club please ask them to contact

Positions Vacant:

As well as looking for people to help with organising club events, we are also still looking for someone to take on the role of club treasurer.

If anyone is interested in running the tea hut on a Sunday morning please contact Catherine O’Hara:
For more information on this position and other important volunteer opportunities in the club please visit the club website <>

Football Boot Exchange:

This is going strong and feedback has been positive.  If you’ve got any boots that are no longer needed and you think they’ll be of use to someone else at the club, please clean them up and drop them into the tea hut.  If you see some boots you like there, feel free to take them.  The tea hut is open every Saturday morning.  If the hut is closed but you have some boots to drop off please just leave them on the tea hut step.

Congratulations to:

  • Kim Rosello, under 7 coach, for completing her FA level 1 Coaching qualification.  Kim’s enthusiasm for grass roots football and dedication to the development of Wodson’s future stars is a real asset to the club.
  • The Under 14s: for winning the Under 14 Division 5 league title and qualifying for the final of the Under 14 Division 5 Cup.  Well done to the players, coaches, Stuart Marshall and Gary Olive, and their assistants.

Wodson Park Netball Club:

The Wodson Park Netball Club is really taking off  and now has over 80 senior and junior members

If anyone has children who are interested and would like to come along please contact the club’s netball secretary Jackie ( ) who will be able to answer any of your questions.

Don’t forget we also have adult sessions too as well as a Back 2 Netball programme.
